Great nursing care is about more than taking vitals, checking boxes, or moving quickly from one patient to the next. To me, it means slowing down enough to really listen, understand what someone is going through, and help them find real answers. At Primary Health Partners, that kind of care is not the exception; it’s our standard of care.

My background is in ICU nursing, specializing in cardiac care. During the COVID pandemic, I saw patients who still needed continuous care sent home because their procedures were considered elective. That experience affected me deeply. I wanted to be part of a healthcare model that focuses on prevention, relationships, and helping people stay well.

One of the things that makes our model so special is that our clinic teams collaborate closely on every patient’s care, and our provider-to-nurse ratios allow for much more patient-focused care. That means patients are not starting over every time they call or come in. They are talking to someone who knows them, listens to them, and truly cares about helping them feel better. I believe that kind of relationship makes a huge difference in how people experience healthcare.

When patients call or visit us, they are often juggling a lot. They may be worried about symptoms, trying to understand a diagnosis, or just hoping for answers without spending more time or money than they have to. Our nurses help guide them through that process with patience and compassion. We listen, we explain, and we help make the next step easier.

Care that feels personal

In traditional healthcare, patients can sometimes feel like just another number. They repeat the same information over and over, wait a long time for answers, and leave feeling more confused than when they arrived. That is not the kind of care I believe in.

At PHP, our nurses get to build real relationships with patients. We get to know their stories, their concerns, and what matters most to them. That connection allows us to care for people in a way that feels more personal and meaningful. It also helps patients feel more comfortable asking questions and reaching out when something does not feel right.

That trust matters. It is what allows us to support patients not just when they are sick, but also when they are trying to stay well.

Helping patients save time and money

Another part of nursing at PHP that I value deeply is helping patients navigate care in ways that save them time and money. Our nurses help walk patients through in-house labs and prescriptions, which can make a big difference for families.

When patients can get their labs done in-house, it saves them from having to make extra trips or deal with outside testing centers. When we can help them understand their prescription options, they can often save money and avoid unnecessary confusion. Those may seem like small things, but for many patients, they add up to a much better experience.

I love that our nurses are part of making care simpler and more affordable. We are not just treating symptoms. We are helping people move through their healthcare in a way that feels easier, smarter, and less stressful.

Why I love our team

What I love most about our nursing team is how deeply we care about our patients. Each nurse knows the people they help, and they take pride in being someone patients can count on. That kind of consistency builds comfort and confidence, especially when someone is dealing with a health concern that feels overwhelming.

Our nurses also work very closely with our providers, which means care feels seamless. If a patient has a question, needs help with a lab, or wants to understand a prescription, there is a nurse ready to step in and help. That collaboration is one of the reasons our patients feel supported.

I genuinely believe our nurses love what they do because they know the people they serve. They do not just see appointments on a schedule … they see real lives, real families, and real opportunities to make a difference.

What great nursing means to me

To me, great nursing means listening with care, responding with kindness, and helping patients feel like they matter. It means being present enough to notice the small details and compassionate enough to understand when something feels hard for them.

It also means making healthcare feel less overwhelming. If we can help a patient save time, save money, and feel more at ease during the process, then we are doing our job well.

At Primary Health Partners, our nurses do more than support visits. They help create a healthcare experience that feels human. And I think that is what patients remember most.

The heart of PHP nursing

I feel lucky to work alongside nurses who truly love taking care of people. They listen. They advocate. They explain things in a way patients can understand. And they bring heart to every interaction.

That emotional connection is a big part of what makes PHP different. We want patients to feel known, supported, and cared for by someone who is truly invested in their health.

For me, that is the best part of nursing at Primary Health Partners. We get to care for people in a way that is personal, practical, and full of heart.

About Robin

Robin Schluter, RN came to Primary Health Partners in 2023 after a career in ICU nursing that included specialized work preparing cardiac patients for heart transplants and LVAD procedures.

She joined PHP as a staff nurse, was promoted to Director of Nursing in September 2025, and has not looked back since.

Today she leads nursing teams across all eleven PHP clinics, by building systems that empower nurses, advocating for the people who advocate for patients, and working every day to change healthcare in a way that benefits people rather than systems. She is also a mom of five, a grandma who goes by Rennie, and someone who cheers on football games, can lay tile, and sew curtains on the same weekend.
